Gang Project Worker

Join as a Project Worker and you could be integral to the development and delivery of gang intervention and street conflict programme.

As a Project Worker, you will:

  • Plan and lead on the delivery of activities and interventions that will deter young people from involvement in street conflict related activities
  • Work across the whole spectrum of the project’s delivery, hold a case of referrals and support young people via a range of interventions, including 1-2-1 support and group work
  • Engage and build positive relationships with the young people, conduct individual assessments and develop action plans
  • Carry out outreach and detached work to engage young people in schools and the local community
  • Make sure all elements of the programme are targeted appropriately
  • Support the Service Manager in maintaining effective links with local agencies and community groups and help develop new initiatives.
  • Undertaking assessments of remand and sentenced prisoners and working with the prison and other colleagues to address immediate needs.
  • Supervising Service Users during their prison sentence and directly delivering interventions that support their rehabilitation and resettlement.
  • Informing, consulting and involving each Service User in determining rehabilitation plans and activities.
  • Co-ordinating with colleagues and partners in the prison and the community and engaging peer and volunteer mentors to ensure that Service Users comply with agreed activities.
  • Delivering a group work programme to prisoners.
  • Engaging and motivating prisoners to take part in sessions and delivering practical skills around several pathways to support a reduction in re-offending. 

As a Project Worker you will need:

  • Experience of working in a high risk client group presenting violent or challenging behavior and planning, leading, delivering and evaluating activities and interventions for young people
  • An understanding of the issues facing socially excluded young people or those at risk from disengaging from mainstream activities and the issue of gang violence/territorialism
  • A track record of delivering individual and group work, managing risk and ensuring the safety of staff and clients in a volatile setting
  • A proven ability to engage young people, parents and the community and work with a range of partners to achieve agreed outcomes
  • A positive approach, excellent organizational and communication skills, lots of tact and diplomacy when dealing with sensitive issues and a willingness to work outside core hours.
